Mom. Such a short and simple word with so much power and meaning.

The word “mother” means something different for everyone—of course, there’s different types of mothers and maternal figures, but we will most likely picture our own mother and the unique relationship we share with them. However, most mothers do share one thing in common: an unconditional and fearless love for their children.

Celebrating your mother, grandmother, aunt, or any maternal figure you look to is a special opportunity to show them how much you love and appreciate them. Although Mother’s Day itself is a relatively modern concept, ‘mother’s day scripture’ has lived in the Word of God since the beginning.

Celebrating Mom on Mother's Day

We hear of many remarkable mothers in scripture, but perhaps Mother Mary is the prominent of the maternal figures in the Bible. As the mother of Jesus, she took on this role with an immense amount of courage and grace. She acts as a role model to all my mothers, as well as a calming spirit to those who seek maternal comfort. In the Bible, specifically the fifth of the Ten Commandments, God tells us that we should honor our mother.

Our mothers should not only feel respected, but also appreciated. Whether you are religious or not, this is something we all should practice.

Maybe mothers aren’t all perfect saints and maybe they don’t all give birth to the next Messiah, but each of them are spoken about with the utmost respect in biblical text.

Being a mother is truly one of the hardest jobs one can take on. But if we learn anything from the Bible, it is that motherhood is a special calling.

My mom and I have a very special relationship. I can confidently say that she knows me the best out of anyone—maybe even myself sometimes. She’s the strongest and most compassionate person I will ever know. Though we may not get along all of the time, I know she will always be there for me.

Through every laugh and every cry, she is my shoulder to lean on.

When honoring our mothers this special Sunday each May, the first question that may pop up in our minds is: ‘What should I get her?’. Picking out a gift for our mothers is a whole other thoughtful process in itself. Most of the time you probably don’t even know where to start. Well, we believe that the best gift one can give to someone as special as a mother is not one that has tons of zeros on its price tag, but the gifts that hold the most meaning.

To get you started, we have compiled our favorite Mother’s Day bible quotes to inspire your Mother’s Day shopping and make it more personal….

To Inspire Mom…

Mothers always seem to say the right thing. As our trusted advisors, these women ensure that we feel ready to take on the world each day.

In the Bible, Mothers are seen as the foundation of the family. The glue that keeps the household together, the gravity that keeps us grounded, and the sunshine that makes all of our rainy days better.

From diapers to adulthood, our mothers are always there as our guardian angels, guiding us as best as they can to ensure that we live a fulfilled life. But have you ever thought about who guides our mothers when they feel lost? Maybe it’s her sister, a best friend, or even her own mother. Just know that out of all the people in her life, the one she likely values most is you.

If she’s been your guiding light since birth and shared her most valued advice through the years, now marks a prime opportunity to give back to her with an inspirational message.

This Mother’s Day, share a meaningful mother’s day bible verse the mom in your life to lift her spirits and help her feel inspired…

      To Honor Mom…

One of the most important lessons we are taught from the Bible is the importance of honoring our mother.

Mothers are not perfect, no one is. Although we may view them as superhuman because of all they can juggle in their lives, believe it or not they are human just like us. But perfection should not be a factor in how much we respect our mothers. It is our job to ensure that they are treated with the utmost honor and respect, especially on Mother’s Day.

Any of these Mother’s Day bible quotes will help you express your honor for the special woman you get to call mom…

      • "Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate." —Proverbs 31:31

      • “Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.” —Proverbs 31:25-27

      • “I am reminded of your sincere faith…” —1 Timothy 1:5

      • “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” —Proverbs 22:6

        To Love Mom…

The bond between a mother and her children is truly unique. The strength of this unity can stand the test of time.

A mother’s love is so powerful that God uses it as a metaphor for his own. It is the kind of love without judgement, it does not dissolve in the event of danger or anguish, and does not fear. It is unconditional and beautiful.

This love is one we feel, even when our mother isn’t around. Just the thought of her warming presence can bring  us peace. The premise of this holiday is to express our love for our mothers in a more significant way than our daily “I love yous”. Nothing can truly measure up to a mother’s love and words certainly cannot do it justice, but we can sure try our best. We each receive a unique type of love from our mothers depending on the relationship we share with them.

This Mother’s Day when you tell her how much you love her, be sure that the words you share reflect that special relationship.

This list of Mother’s Day bible verses are the perfect way to start off that special “I love you” message to her…

        • “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” —1 Corinthians 13:13

          • “{Love} always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” —1 Corinthians 13:7

          • “There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all!” —Proverbs 31:29

          • “Above all, maintain an intense love for each other, since love covers a multitude of sins.” —1 Peter 4:8

          To Thank Mom…

Our mothers do so much for us each and every day. We would not be where we are today without them.

Mothers play so many roles in our lives—many of us know them as our first teachers, role models, loudest cheerleaders, advisors, chauffeurs, chefs, stand-in best friends, and everything else in between. It is truly one of the hardest, yet most rewarding ventures of a lifetime.

I don’t think there will ever be the right words to say when it comes to thanking my mom for all she has done for me and the irreplaceable role she has played in my life.
